9 Essential Supplements That Should Be Part of Your Daily Routine

As one of the premier boot camps Burleigh Heads and fitness centres, we’ve seen countless people transform their lives through exercise. However, physical activity can only get you so far. If you want to make a real commitment to your own health and wellbeing it’s crucial you start feeding your body what it needs to keep up with your new schedule of lifting weights and cardio exercise. Here’s nine supplements you need to pick up from your local health food store pronto.

Vitamin D
You’re not getting enough vitamin D. How do we know? Because most people in the general population aren’t. We spend far too much time indoors not getting enough sunlight, especially winter sunlight. It’s a shame because having healthy vitamin D levels is incredibly important to overall wellbeing and energy levels and severe vitamin D deficiency can be devastating for your health.

Zinc
Just like Vitamin D, most people aren’t getting enough essential minerals. Start by getting some more zinc in your system with a good supplement. What does zinc do? We could go on for ages, but the Cliff’s Notes boil down to supporting healthy immune function, actually helping your immune system fight off diseases. It also plays a role in wound healing and the breakdown of carbs.

Magnesium
Another essential mineral that you’re probably not getting enough of is magnesium. Again, this is certainly not good for your health and general wellbeing, especially if you exercise regularly. Magnesium supports some of your body’s most essential functions including regulating blood sugar levels, as well as muscle and nerve function.

Turmeric
Still feeling sore after a grueling workout or just seem to have aches and pains with no explanation? Like most people, your body’s likely living in a constant state of inflammation. Turmeric is like a wonder-drug for inflammation. Get a good turmeric supplement or start chucking this vibrant orange powder in meals your cook at home.

Probiotics
You may have noticed recently that we’re in the midst of something of a ‘gut health revolution’. Absolutely everybody is talking about how important it is to have a healthy gut microbiome, how your gut actually has neurotransmitters that affect your mood, and how a gutful of healthy flora can prevent all kinds of illnesses and ailments. Well guess what, it’s pretty much all true.

Fish Oil
Another classic supplement that everyone’s heard of, but far too many people forget to take. The sad thing is there’s really no excuse not be supplementing with fish oil. It’s full of Omega-3 fatty acids that basically act as inflammation scavengers and what’s more, it’s pretty darn cheap most of the time. Just ensure you find a quality fish oil supplement that won’t turn rancid quickly.

CoQ10
Yeah, that CoQ10, the one you see advertised in every skin cream commercial. Why should you be supplementing it? For starters it’s a pseudovitamin that’s actually essential to life, but if you need more convincing, CoQ10 feeds mitochondria, the parts of your cells that contain energy.

Creatine
This one’s an oldie but a goodie. Creatine simply works, used by everyone from professional athletes and strongmen, through to your everyday journeyman weightlifter. It’s not going to give you that Superman feeling that pre-workout supplements do, but if you’re doing the right thing and keeping a diary of your weight and reps, you’ll see the difference in the numbers.

Chlorella
There’s an increasing amount of evidence that suggests chlorella is like a bouncer as far as bodily toxins are concerned–it grabs them by the collar and boots them out. What is it? Actually, it’s a type of algae. If you’re using a greens powder then you’re probably already getting a hit of chlorella, but concentrated supplements are available in most health food stores.
